The Hunchback of Bethnal Green
“Seriously impressive theatre”

“This is a fantastic story which is as relevant to contemporary East End life as it was to the world of medieval Paris in which the book was set”

On the back of a successful script read through at the famous Kings Head Theatre in Angel, Islington, a further Lottery grant was awarded to run pilot project in conjunction with OHArt! Bethnal Green. Four homeless actors were employed to explore the piece and this resulted in a short performance.
The culmination of the project was an Arts Council award to employ actors with experience of homelessness and/or seeking asylum to rehearse and stage a two week professional run in St John’s of Bethnal Green of my second play “The Hunchback of Bethnal Green.”. I was very privileged to be able to open OH!Art’s first season of performances in conjunction with their new arts centre launch. The church gave the theatre company complete free reign to stage a site specific performance which used every nook and cranny of this beautiful building to explore a modern setting reworking of the original Hunchback story.
