Essential Oils for Sexual Wellbeing
Essential oils are one of my favourite ways to enhance pleasure and sexual well being...
Aromatherapy and essential oils have long been used as a natural aphrodisiac. In this article I am going to list some of my favourite ways to use essential oils - both to increase turn on, amplify orgasmic pleasure and also to help with some female sexual conditions and reproductive health. It's worth saying here that
One of the biggest issues when it comes to sexual wellbeing is of course our desire in the first place. Libido can be affected by so many different things - stress related, trauma based, physiological or hormonal. So the best thing to do is to tailor your oil choice to the underlying cause of any libido issues you have.
Of course I am not an aromatherapist - so anything you read here is based upon my experience only and I encourage you to verify with somebody certified or, if you have health issues, your GP.
That said, essential oils are one of my favourite ways to touch in and support my sexual pleasure. Here's what I like best!
NEROLI
An essential oil extracted from the blossoms of orange trees and what is not to love about that. This floral oil contains many therapeutic properties that help with a number of nervous and stress-related conditions. So if you're struggling to relax in the bedroom then this oil is super powerful. It is said to increase desire too - as per the legend of Cleopatra soaking the sails of her ship with Neroli and Jasmine oil before sailing up the Nile to seduce Marc Anthony. Enough said
ROSE
Considered one of the best oils for helping with sexual dysfunction (including for men), rose oil is a classic help for female reproductive organ issues. It is also one of the most expensive oils to produce, taking a huge amount of petals to extract just a few drops. However, it's price is worth it. One of my favourite oils ever I like to tune into the healing energy of the feminine when I use this oil. It reminds me of luxury and peace. With an anti-depressant effect and libido boost to boot.
SANDALWOOD
Long been believed to have a positive effect on libido. The essential oil has calming and relaxing properties that are considered beneficial in helping to promote a relaxed environment, but it may also help with arousal as well. A study conducted in 2006 found that participants reported significantly elevated pulse rates and blood pressure when exposed to sandalwood essential oil. Sandalwood has an aroma that is well-liked by both men and women too, and it has the added bonus of blending well with many essential oils, so it is a great choice for the bedroom.
VETIVER
If brain fog and mental exhaustion are issues for you when it comes to sexual wellbeing, then consider giving Vetiver a try. Known for it's uplifting and focussing qualities, try vetiver to help you wake up a little and get in the game. It also has a pleasant woody aroma, as a counterbalance to all the florals.
CLARY SAGE
Known for having a beneficial effect on hormones, and in particular has been shown to reduce cortisol levels after inhalation - this oil is fantastic as a help if you are struggling with hormonal or physiological reasons when it comes to sex. As a balancing oil, it makes sense that it's fragrance is normally enjoyed by everyone too.
ways to apply ESSENTIAL OILS FOR sexual wellbeing
Essential oils can be used in the following ways for sexual health:
INHALATION
When an essential oil is inhaled, the aromatic molecules can travel through the nasal passages towards the lungs, and eventually to the brain where they then interact with the limbic system. The limbic system is the area of the brain that is linked to our emotions, memory, stress, and more, making inhalation a great way to help boost sex drive.
APPLYING TO THE SKIN
Another fantastic option for using essential oils for libido is to use them in a massage blend. Massage is a great way to experience essential oils topically, as it can promote relaxation and increase circulation to the areas being massaged. During a massage, both the individual giving the massage and the recipient can experience the therapeutic properties of essential oils. Not to mention the fact that massage is a great way to help set the mood in the bedroom! Try mixing a few drops of your chosen oils with jojoba, sweet almond or other light massage oils.
INTERNAL USE
You can either add some drops of your favourite oils or blend to a massage oil and use as a natural lubricant, or you can simply put some drops on a yoni egg and insert for 30-40 minutes to let the oils work their magic.
